Overview

`[18F]FPDTG` (also referred to as `[18F]FPTDG` or `3-[18F]fluorophenylthio-digalactoside`) is a fluorine-18 labeled glycomimetic radiotracer developed by Wayne State University and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. It is designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of galectin-3 (Gal-3) expression, which is significantly overexpressed in breast carcinomas compared to pre-malignant or benign lesions. By targeting Gal-3 with high binding affinity (Kd of 14 nM) and specificity, `[18F]FPDTG` serves as a diagnostic imaging agent for the early detection and differential diagnosis of malignant versus benign breast lesions, particularly in patients with dense breast tissue where mammography has limited sensitivity.
